Always fascinating to see how the copper nails become polished to brass after many years of hands rubbing the tops during everyday use ! Unfortunately, these original nail heads will snap from their pins as they are removed as part of the reupholstery process. We will replace them with new copper upholstery nails that are similar to how these chairs would have looked when new in the mid/late 1930s, or we could use brass nails to keep the later, polished look.
As always, having chairs in original condition gives us the solid template to renovate and reupholster to the original style and standard. The now missing seat cushions may have been in leather but, more than likely, would have been in a velvet or similar fabric. We will make new, feather-filled cushions to the new owner's preference !
